I have been writing the Six Christies blog for just over 1 year; 13 months to be exact, except for the 6 months I took off because my life and a move to the east coast took over every waking second and I couldn’t get a thought or word in edgewise. At this point, I think I pretty well have it together, house is unpacked, kiddos are mostly adjusted, we have made friends, and I am back to doing what I love – writing. But, I am overwhelmed, by everything, and everything seems just…well…hard. Lil’ Bit was doing homework the other day, and said one of the most profound things I have heard in a long time, “Why can’t it just be easy, Mommy?” So we tried doing the problem another way, a simplified way, and it was actually pretty easy (common core-esque math, even in kindergarten is confusing).
I love where I am right now, sure it’s challenging, but it’s life, it’s supposed to be challenging. Life should be lived, and in order to live, one must breathe. When you reach the point where you feel you are constantly treading quicksand and gulping mouthfuls of salty sea water when no beach is in sight, something has to change. Usually, the easiest way is to drop something, maybe a commitment, or unnecessary task; but what do you do when you don’t want to drop something, when you love what you are doing? You find another way, a simplified way.
I am a total “type B” personality with heavy “type A” undertones, I jump in with both feet, fully committed, and often with no plan. It’s my style, it’s what I do, and it gets great looks when you give it as your “weakness” in a job interview. Unfortunately, with this style comes a tendency to make things harder than they need to be, to over think, to stress where no stress is necessary. I need to simplify, and not just my blog, not just my house, not just daily routines, not just family dinners (you get the idea). I need to simplify in all aspects.
Simplify. It sounds easy enough doesn’t it? Take what you do already and make it easier. Once you have simplified, it will be easier to do more that you can enjoy. You will be well rested, less stressed, better prepared, and more organized.

Step 1: Remove the excess from your life.
So you take a look around, and it seems pretty easy, everyone had a few bags of clutter laying around, things they just don’t need or want anymore, and you begin to clean out. Those first few bags or boxes are easy, the next few are a little harder, then it starts to get really tough and you have to make some decisions on just how much you want to simplify.
There are many other steps, but this is where I usually stop, with the stuff – a good clean out is always great, spring cleaning when everything is fresh and new; but come the dog days of summer I am one stressed out mommy. Then I realized, it’s not just the stuff – it’s everything. The clutter in my life is overwhelming and I am missing out on living.
So, I have made a decision, I going past step 1, I am simplifying wherever and whenever I can: clothes, dinner, activities, stuff, well you get the idea. My ultimate goal is to have less in my life so I can ultimately live more. Moving forward, I will be sharing all things simplified, from Disney to recipes, to activities and crafts, to tips and tricks to make the day go smoother.
They (who ever they are) say not to diet but to make a lifestyle change. So that is what I am doing, I am making a lifestyle change to simple. I am excited to make “simple” my new goal, and I hope you will come and join me, or read along as I attempt this feat. I am not some highly educated efficiency expert, I am a mom, a wife, a daughter, a sister, a friend, and a blogger, so much of this will be trial and error (inevitably I will fall on my face more than once so you might even get a good chuckle or maybe even a good belly laugh, you are not laughing at me, you are laughing with me, and I like to laugh a lot).
