If you are following me on Twitter (@CChristie225) you may have noticed that I am a little tiny bit excited about the upcoming release of Pirates Of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales. I’m not sure what it is about these films, but I am hooked, and I cannot wait for the return of Will and Elisabeth. So, to make sure I am fresh on the storyline, I am re-watching the previous films, and it is my personal belief that it is not possible to watch a movie without snacks; if you are having snacks then you must have a beverage, and if you are going to have a beverage, well why not drink it out of a fun glittered glass? These glasses are easy and fun to make and can be made with any type of glass. I used a champagne flute since it is summer, and I love sipping on prosecco when it is hot outside! I also found this fun cork from Amazon that allows you to have a glass or 2 and seal the bottle back up to keep the bubbles for 3 or 4 more days! If you are a fan of bubbles this cork is worth its weight in gold…pirate gold….but not the cursed kind.
There are 8 simple steps to creating this fun glass.
Dishwasher Safe Mod Podge * I do not recommend putting this particular glass in the dishwasher.
Glitter (you can use as many colors as you would like but I would keep it at 2 or 3)
Paper (Washi) Tape
Sealer (Many crafters say this is optional, but the glitter will flake off on your hands if it is not sealed) ** There is an FDA approved sealer. If you intend for any part of your glass to come in contact with your mouth, use the FDA approved version.
Step 1: Tape off your desired design with paper (washi) tape
Step 2: Paint on Mod Podge with the foam brush in the taped off area for the first color of glitter
Step 3: Cover with glitter and tap off excess
Step 4: Allow some time to dry (or mostly dry)
Step 5: Add a second coat of glitter by repeating steps 2, 3, and 4
Step 6: Repeat steps 2-4 with additional glitter colors removing tape as needed to complete your design.
Step 7: Let it sit and dry completely (overnight is best – a hairdryer will help in a pinch).
Step 8: Cover with sealer and let dry one more time. The key here is to apply thin coats with a brush, the sealer does dull the glitter sparkle a bit.
All that’s left now is to pop a bowl of popcorn and enjoy your beverage while you enjoy the movies!
